Black Moon Lilith workshop tonight in LA "Lilith: Healing the Wild" When: Thursday, August 7, 2008, Bodhi Tree Book Store Annex (8585 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood 90069), 7:30-9:30 PM, $15 suggested donation. The archetype of the true Black Moon Lilith (BML) represents an instinctive and pre-rational part of us connecting us to the planet and all life in general. The social order tends to fear Lilith, as she supports people in honoring themselves and their natural, instinctive wisdom above the expectations and mandates of groups. Lilith has been demonized as a result, with the intent to instill fear in people about reconnecting with their instinctive side. The state of the planet reflects this serious disconnect with nature, with ourselves-as-nature. Where we have the true BML in our birth charts shows where we've been suppressed in our natural, instinctive expression, as well as where we can, by healing our wounding related to that suppression, reconnect with the natural world and contribute to turning around humanity's relationship to the planet. We each have a relationship with the wild world waiting to be developed, and understanding this view of Lilith points the way to how to do it. Healing Lilith represents a level of emotional healing deeper than we typically discuss and know how to address, and our evolution requires enlarging our vocabulary to include Lilith. I'll also have a recording for sale soon - sign up for my mailing list to find out when that's available. http://tdjacobs.com |

what an interesting article: Toward a Type 1 Civilization i just came upon this here and i really want to read it out loud as my practice article when i get home this evening. from here: http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-shermer22-2008jul22,0,5301697.storyToward a Type 1 civilization Along with energy policy, political and economic systems must also evolve.
By Michael Shermer July 22, 2008
Our civilization is fast approaching a tipping point. Humans will need to make the transition from nonrenewable fossil fuels as the primary source of our energy to renewable energy sources that will allow us to flourish into the future. Failure to make that transformation will doom us to the endless political machinations and economic conflicts that have plagued civilization for the last half-millennium.
We need new technologies to be sure, but without evolved political and economic systems, we cannot become what we must. And what is that? A Type 1 civilization. Let me explain.
In a 1964 article on searching for extraterrestrial civilizations, the Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev suggested using radio telescopes to detect energy signals from other solar systems in which there might be civilizations of three levels of advancement: Type 1 can harness all of the energy of its home planet; Type 2 can harvest all of the power of its sun; and Type 3 can master the energy from its entire galaxy.
Based on our energy efficiency at the time, in 1973 the astronomer Carl Sagan estimated that Earth represented a Type 0.7 civilization on a Type 0 to Type 1 scale. (More current assessments put us at 0.72.) As the Kardashevian scale is logarithmic -- where any increase in power consumption requires a huge leap in power production -- we have a ways before 1.0.
Fossil fuels won't get us there. Renewable sources such as solar, wind and geothermal are a good start, and coupled to nuclear power could eventually get us to Type 1.
Yet the hurdles are not solely -- or even primarily -- technological ones. We have a proven track record of achieving remarkable scientific solutions to survival problems -- as long as there is the political will and economic opportunities that allow the solutions to flourish. In other words, we need a Type 1 polity and economy, along with the technology, in order to become a Type 1 civilization.
We are close. If we use the Kardashevian scale to plot humankind's progress, it shows how far we've come in the long history of our species from Type 0, and it leads us to see what a Type 1 civilization might be like:
Type 0.1: Fluid groups of hominids living in Africa. Technology consists of primitive stone tools. Intra-group conflicts are resolved through dominance hierarchy, and between-group violence is common.
Type 0.2: Bands of roaming hunter-gatherers that form kinship groups, with a mostly horizontal political system and egalitarian economy.
Type 0.3: Tribes of individuals linked through kinship but with a more settled and agrarian lifestyle. The beginnings of a political hierarchy and a primitive economic division of labor.
Type 0.4: Chiefdoms consisting of a coalition of tribes into a single hierarchical political unit with a dominant leader at the top, and with the beginnings of significant economic inequalities and a division of labor in which lower-class members produce food and other products consumed by non-producing upper-class members.
Type 0.5: The state as a political coalition with jurisdiction over a well-defined geographical territory and its corresponding inhabitants, with a mercantile economy that seeks a favorable balance of trade in a win-lose game against other states.
Type 0.6: Empires extend their control over peoples who are not culturally, ethnically or geographically within their normal jurisdiction, with a goal of economic dominance over rival empires.
Type 0.7 (we are around here right now): Democracies that divide power over several institutions, which are run by elected officials voted for by some citizens. The beginnings of a market economy.
Type 0.8: Liberal democracies that give the vote to all citizens. Markets that begin to embrace a nonzero, win-win economic game through free trade with other states.
Type 0.9: Democratic capitalism, the blending of liberal democracy and free markets, now spreading across the globe through democratic movements in developing nations and broad trading blocs such as the European Union.
Type 1.0: Globalism that includes worldwide wireless Internet access, with all knowledge digitized and available to everyone. A completely global economy with free markets in which anyone can trade with anyone else without interference from states or governments. A planet where all states are democracies in which everyone has the franchise.
The forces at work that could prevent us from making the great leap forward to a Type 1 civilization are primarily political and economic. The resistance by nondemocratic states to turning power over to the people is considerable, especially in theocracies whose leaders would prefer we all revert to Type 0.4 chiefdoms. The opposition toward a global economy is substantial, even in the industrialized West, where economic tribalism still dominates the thinking of most politicians, intellectuals and citizens.
For thousands of years, we have existed in a zero-sum tribal world in which a gain for one tribe, state or nation meant a loss for another tribe, state or nation -- and our political and economic systems have been designed for use in that win-lose world. But we have the opportunity to live in a win-win world and become a Type 1 civilization by spreading liberal democracy and free trade, in which the scientific and technological benefits will flourish. I am optimistic because in the evolutionist's deep time and the historian's long view, the trend lines toward achieving Type 1 status tick inexorably upward.
That is change we can believe in.

Help please? I'm in a really tough place and I need some advice. If you could help me, it'd be greatly appreciated. I've been looking for jobs this entire summer with no luck. I nearly had a job the other day, but that didn't happen because of something stupid. I've been trying to find a job so I can get enough money to leave this place, but no one will hire me. I'm pretty positive I could get a job with my best friend's work, an after school program at a local elementary school, but my brother won't give up the car because he hates the bus driver and thinks having someone drive him to school is embarrassing. So if I did find a job, I wouldn't even have transportation. My moods are completely haywire. I feel like I'm going insane here. What is causing this? Is it going to end soon? I can't take much more of this. ( Chart under cut ) |

This Explains It ALL So I did a chart for the three influential women in my life. My mom, her mom and my aunt Wanda. And guess what I found out? They all have Venus in Pisces just like me. I was flabbergasted! Not only did I learn how to love from these women, but I actually inherited their love karma (?) And looking at their histories, they all have rocky relationships. Men who cheat, are abusive and/or don't give a sh*t about them. I hope, I pray I can learn from them. Current Mood: surprised |

Aubrey funnies Aubrey went with my parents to visit my sister and her family. She has two children a little older than Aub. The cousins were both scheduled to be baptized at church on Sunday. Aubrey visits my mom's church on occasion but had never witnessed a baptism apparently. Keep in mind these are Baptist churches so they dunk folks. Aubrey was sitting between my parents and cousin Mitch was up there with the pastor. Aubrey's watching. The preacher dipped Mitch under the water and Aubrey exclaimed loudly "He just SHOVED HIM UNDER THE WATER!!!" Yesterday morning I got up and Aubrey was sitting on the couch it was nearly 9 am. I make my way to the kitchen and Aubrey says "Mom, what time do I go to school?" I had showed him his new clothes and told him he had to get used to going to bed earlier again the night before. He thought I meant he was going back to school the next morning so there he sat in his new clothes including new undies with the polo shirt buttoned ALL the way up. John fixed a computer program for him today that hadn't been working for a while. Grand Chase if any of you have heard of it. He and Kevin LOVE playing it. Aubrey was so excited that it was working again. He said to John "I thought this day would never come!" I have no idea where he gets his dramatic flair. Current Mood: amused |

Venus in Virgo Venus transiting Virgo brings us the opportunity to change ourselves. It's a time to harvest the joys of life with deeper understanding. Emotional Venus combined with analytical Virgo creates a rewarding balance of harmony and peace with old issues, as well as the ability to forge ahead down the path of happiness with conscious understanding and reason.I found this on a website, but I was curious (since it just changed to Virgo) to as how you think it is going to effect you or how it already has begun effecting you :o You see, since my ascendant is in Virgo, I think it has already begun to help me think more cleary and logically about things in my life- especially in regards to this crush I have on this guy who lives 5 hours south of me. I realize and accept it will never happen that he and I will be together, since neither one of us are big on long distance relationships. I just have to accept that he and I will always just be long distance friends, even if he finds someone romantically or I do. Edit: Eh, thanks to the person that pointed out that Venus is not in retrograde- I knew that for myself, but apparently hadn't paid attention to the fact that the article had said it was. /Edit Current Mood: thoughtful |

cheap keif i decided not to switch between journals for what i say now. what are drugs? it's not only a chemical substance affecting body and mind of the consumer of stuff, it's an element of culture, status tag if i may say so. most people are not thinking of it getting hooked on drugs. and if you started with scoring only the first rate coke, placing a glam label onto your face, sooner or later you will do second rate stuff just because of the itch you're getting from your addiction. is it still the same keif you're getting? i doubt... when you're tuned on some special sensations, you crave for this very special state of mind you've started with and not getting it, because of the growing tolerance and impurities and admixtures of the stuff (let's say i'm talking of ordinary ppl, not billionaires or coke magnates who can easily get this very first rate stuff on demand). here the glam label unnoticeable vanishes making a room for anything else but glam. the addiction stays. is there a thing like cheap keif then? a substitute - maybe. not a keif for sure. i wish i could feel the keif described on The Hasheesh Eater book of Fitz Hugh Ludlow. i just need to get rich. because i'm unable to imagine me chewing on the stuff that's in my reach. still, mine stuff is so so. not the best, but not the worst too... the result of my extended addiction. needless to say, i'm not promoting drugs. i am very upset. i wish i could be a different person, with no these tendencies, you know... such a waste of money and health! and, again... cheap is rarely fine. ;) i might say never but i still believe in miracles. low-wage staff, i.e.. i still hope to be a good-working lassie. anyway, investing in me is keenly appreciated. i can be your first rate drug. Transit or Progression Hi again. I was wondering which is the better kind of chart to look at for the following type of personal problem and what planet it might pertain to? The problem: Disillusionment w/ the rest of society. It's been a slow, gradual thing continuing since at least 9/11. I would assume that the planet of attention would be Neptune, but I could be mistaken. If I am mistaken, let me know. Things are never what they appear esp. with these fancy/far out technologies and services they keep putting out on the market. And also to do w/ the money it takes to afford them. Been something that's been preoccupying my mind thanks to eternal influences here lately. I know that Neptune's in Aquarius right now, has been for sometime, and was wondering if that has anything to do with it or not? Whatever happens, it's been driving me nuts, and could just be a (healthy?) case of paranoia! I really don't know enough about progressive things like this. Btw. Progressed Mars + Transiting Pluto is conjunct natal Mercury. I just looked at my chart, and it shows some interesting placements. Anyone have any idea about that type of conjunction? Mercury in LibraHow many of you have Mercury in Libra, preferably unafflicted? From what I've observed and what I read, I think that this is one of my favorite Mercurial placements ever! Yod the Finger of God So yes, I joined this wonderful online astrology tribe network and I had no idea what a Yod, the Finger of God is. I posted my chart up there and this dude posted me back: Yods are not all that common , by you have a very strong one, Nadia. It has Chiron at the apex, right on your MC, and neptune and pluto/vesta at the base points, all important players and the orbs are tight making it a very strong yod. I think this very important and reaching an understanding of this and keeping track of influences on the planets involved will be very helpful for you. I think it is likely an important part of your story and the work you are doing this incarnation. It would be good for you to come to understand the dynamics of yods and the planets involved in your particular yod.
It can be an uncomfortable aspect, bringing a difficulty in coming to decisions and making up one's mind between alternatives symbolized by the base planets. I think it is good to have chiron, the healer, at the apex and this brings a therapeutic energy to the yod.
Google the term and read up on it. Here is the wikipedia article. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yod_(astrology)( And here be my chart )Please, tell me what he is talking about in simple terms? Kthx <3 Current Mood: sleepy |

a long voice post i started off just talking about stuff on my own and then found an article to read and practice as well. the article is below. as i say in the first part of this, i need need need more practice practice practice everyeveryeveryday - audio version of this post as practice:
Japanese sushi rage threatens iconic Mediterranean tuna

The rage for sushi and sashimi, Japan's raw fish dishes that overtook the West and have now spread to increasingly prosperous China, risks wiping out one of the Mediterranean's most emblematic residents: the bluefin tuna.
Experts say too many of these majestic fish prized since Greek and Roman times -- each one of which can weigh up to 900 kilos (nearly 2,000 pounds) -- are ending up on the platters of restaurants around the globe.
"Japanese consumption was already a threat to bluefin tuna in the Mediterranean. The European craze for sushi bars has added to that," said Roberto Mielgo Bregazzi, a Spanish expert and author of several reports for Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Fund.
And "if the Chinese market continues to grow, that will be the end of the stock," he said.
Eating Japanese-style raw fish in rice packages spread to Europe and the United States in the 1990s and quickly grabbed palates there.

this article is about some crazy stuff that i dont even remember because i had a hard time reading it because of the unusual words in it but i think it helps.
article here: http://www.physorg.com/news130767791.html
Biologists have discovered that a fundamental building block in the cells of flowering plants evolved independently, yet almost identically, on a separate branch of the evolutionary tree--in an ancient plant group called lycophytes that originated at least 420 million years ago. Researchers believe that flowering plants evolved from gymnosperms, the group that includes conifers, ginkgos and related plants. This group split from lycophytes hundreds of millions of years before flowering plants appeared.
The building block, called syringyl lignin, is a critical part of the plants' scaffolding and water-transport systems. It apparently emerged separately in the two plant groups, much like flight arose separately in both bats and birds.

Is there some transit that would make one feel "war-like" right now? Is there some transit happening right now that would make one feel especially "war-like"? Ever since Saturday I keep having these crazy fights. Today I was in my car waiting to turning left. Just sitting there peacefully waiting for a biker to cross the street. When this large man in the car behind me honks at me, gives me the bird, and starts waving his hands around like a maniac (I'm guessing he didn't notice the biker?). I am not shitting you, my reaction was to: get out of my car, walk towards his open car window, screaming that there was a biker and if he wanted to hurt me "go fucking head, I'm in law school and will take you for all you got one day. You won't even be able to feed your children mother fucker." I'm a petite white woman by the way...he looked like a very large man...that was fucking insane for me to do...Luckily, his jaw just dropped and he sat there looking at me stunned.
I am an aries. I have my moments. But recently, they are few and far between...Is there any astrological reason for this? or am I just especially my signish recently?
P.S. Sorry for posting so much recently. I enjoy this community and I've had an unusual amount of free time. :) Also, I hope other people have funny stories to share. lol |
